MAKING A SAFER Brampton will be a priority for me. I will pledge to have a Safety Audit of our communities.
Brampton is one of the fastest growing cities in North America and we need to know if our emergency services are growing at the same rate as our population.
By conducting a safety audit we will find out if our current staffing levels for our emergency services are adequate for the needs of our residents, which will make for a safer Brampton.
In addition, I will advocate for the reinstatement of city funding for the Neighbourhood Watch Brampton program. The Neighbourhood Watch program is an initiative dedicated to crime prevention in the city by providing a system where community members make it a point to look out for one another. Community members come together to engage in activities where they acquire skills to detect crime in their neighbourhood and provide protection for their neighbours. In January of 2017, it was requested of the city to consider covering the cost of signage and installation for the program, as is done in other areas outside of Brampton. This was a request left unresolved. 21 months later, the city has still not reinstated the funding and the program is being run exclusively by volunteers.
